That Look

Your dog is relaxing. Suddenly your dog hears you moving. The immediate reaction is to find your face and perk up its ears.

That look is a great sign that you are on the right track. You can know that your dog is tuned in. Your dog’s instinct is to pay attention to what you are doing and/or to what you might be communicating.

Unfortunately in some families the dog reacts by focusing on its own immediate desires. It’s not the sign of a bad dog. It’s not the dog’s fault. The problem is a lack of connection with the human family. The dog shows no special interest because it knows that the people in the family have little understanding of its needs. It has learned that communication is futile.

“That look” is what we want.
