Your Wet Dog
It is amazing to me that your dog will happily trot in the rain and mud, but if you bring a hose around or spritz your dog with water, it will object.
Most dogs, at least the medium and large varieties have no problem at the beach or jumping in a lake. Unless there has been a bad water experience they will eagerly jump in and start dog paddling.
How is it that dogs can naturally swim without assistance? It takes humans hours of instruction and practice to learn to swim. My theory is that they aren’t really “swimming”. They are simply trying to walk/run. Their feet don’t touch anything but they keep trying feverishly. It’s the same motion. It keeps them afloat and keeps them going. They can move their bodies to turn just as on land, so it simply becomes a smooth transition. I wish learning to swim had been this easy for me.
